We do a lot of mobile web surveys and online surveys. Mobile web is extremely fast (responses are usually gathered in 2 hours) and is indeed good for diaries and super fresh, rich data gathered "in the moment". One example is festivals and conferences for example - get the delegates to tell you about it on their way home whilst it's still fresh in their minds.

Data quality is pretty high too. That said it's still a little more pricey than online and so clients generally still prefer online.

From a respondent perspective we're typically using our specialised mobile web panel as in the wider population respondents are concerned about data costs.

On the plus side, nearly all phones (in Europe at least) can now handle mobile web surveys - one just needs to serve a variety of different formatting templates to ensure the surveys look good on all phones.
